Traveling by boat allowed a duel benifit and odd social characteristic of being given free time to think.
Obviously the designers of that luxury vessel had known of the benefits of a good literary volume; since now that her latest business had been dealt with - a book was just what she needed.
That and maybe a cup of tea?
Chamomile?
Perhaps it was less about the cup and more about the company...
Picking up a book labeled Maybe in Munich Alice sighed deeply feeling an odd connection with its strong spine and familiar strips of proper binding.
The library was rather impressive by private standards; outside of a university - yet she felt like one with a sweet tooth being given an open tab at a candy store.
Still, with the solidarity and stillness of her thoughts, she thought of...
Him.
Her beloved Hatter often resurfaced in her minds eye with just that extra flair in her wardrobe.
Or that savoring of rich pastry like -
Well, she didn't kiss him then.
Why not?!
Hot tears glinted on her face as she looked past the initial reflection on the mirror.
The details were becoming sharper now.
Odd fabric in the chairs, the stitching like his private arsenal of thread -
Scarlet rays of the setting sun; which glinted like the highlights in his copper hair and depths of his topaz eyes...
Like he was looking at her now -
What?!
Her own hazel expression - widening in shock realizing he was looking at her - fondly, reflectively on the other side of the glass!
"I was wondering how long until you'd come in here," in a tone possibly harsher than intended.
"You never did give one time for a proper farewell or greetings..."
She at least had the modesty to blush.
"I've been busy and -"
Silenced with a wave of his hand not much different than the glissando of a magic man's stage trick; it was no less thrilling to admit to herself he was really there!
Almost.
"I know it's harder to be taken seriously as a girl, more so when she's one with better brains than a cabbage stuffed with salmon -"
Tarrant paused to see if his humor had been recieved.
"Since you know it's about fish being brain food you see and a cabbage -"
"Has a head to be filled, I get it..."
Extending a hand to her, tentatively at first, then more confidently at first once their eyes met once again.
"Reach out and -?"
Pulling the Hatter through the barrier was a little strange as except for the brief disstortment of his image like the dropping of a sizable rock in an aquatic surface, she had to remind herself it was really happening even when he was right beside her.
They regarded each other for a moment.
And yet too long had passed until both found a comforting safe harbor within each others embrace like a pair of pirate ships in an anonymous port.
Alice did not wait any further.
Her arms found thier way to his waist, pulling them further into her sanctuary.
Perhaps later she'd have to make up some excuse as to why she was not leaving her room as much.
Even when the weather was pleasent for once.
But if anything it was like finally getting the hang of the gears and mechanics of an hour to minute ratio in a pragmatic fashion -
It was about time.
And right now it was about catching up for lost time.
Together.
